Developing Sukumbasi

For each purchase made on the web, we will allocate 2€ to the development of the Sukumbasi project.

Developing Sukumbasi’ is a project that has been implemented in the Sukumbasi community in Dharan, Nepal, covering a population of 118,000. ‘Sukumbasis’ are defined as landless settlers who have constructed very simple houses on land that doesn't belong to them. They are generally migrants from the hills, victims of natural disasters or manmade conflicts, or indigenous people who have lost their traditional land.
The project focuses its efforts on the Sukumbasi community of Dharan, largely a slum area of very deprived migrants from the Nepali Hill districts, with families living and working as stonebreakers and daily laborers. The community is marginalized with minimum rights due to their internal displacement and minimal income due to limited employment opportunities. The project works to break the cycle of poverty by helping the Sukumbasi community to secure quality education, reduce illness and maternal/infant mortality and promote the rights and opportunities of women.
With these purposes in mind, as part of our philosophy, for each purchase made on the web, we will allocate 2€ to the development of the Sukumbasi project.
